With a variety of entry routes, we are dedicated to supporting Trainee Officers entering into the Merchant Navy by realising their potential with a variety of Training and development programmes. We offer Deck, Engineering or Electro-Technical Officer training opportunities at a variety of specialist Maritime Colleges. More information can be found on the Careers at Sea website.
AW Crewing Services is committed to the development of Trainee Officer Cadets by providing them with the skills and knowledge necessary to enhance their careers. You can apply for sponsorship if you are a EU citizen/passport holder, ordinarily resident in the UK for more than 12 months.
Officer training involves a three-year course leading to a first Certificate of Competency. Entry requirements are either a Foundation Degree (Professional Diploma in Scotland), or an HNC/HND qualification. Requirements for these qualifications are as follows:
Before an offer of sponsorship is made, each candidiate will be required to undertake the Merchant Navy medical examination known as an ENG1.
For details of the examination, contact the Maritime & Coastguard Agency (MCA). If you are considering obtaining an ENG1 before applying, the MCA can also direct you toward approved Doctors.
Through its association with Foreland Shipping Limited, AW Crewing Services Limited is one of the few members of the UK Merchant Navy committed to providing career opportunities for those wishing to train as Merchant Navy Ratings. This training option is particularly suited to those with an interest in a career at sea but who do not meet the academic entry requirements for Trainee Officer Programmes.
Training programmes lead to NVQ Level 2 qualifications in Marine Vessel Operations for Deck Ratings or Marine Engineering Operations for Engine Room Ratings. As with Trainee Officer programmes, training involves both college and sea phases.
